Minkyung (she/her) is an emerging Korean-Canadian artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Alongside her artistic practice, she works as an Art Director in New York City, where she earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Graphic Design and Art Direction on the Netflix docuseries Principles of Pleasure.
Her artistic practice centers on elevating the often-overlooked intricacies of everyday life. Delving into subtle phenomena such as the nuanced variations of color, the delicate play of shadows cast by concave indentations on surfaces, and the refined forms of a subject, Min’s work celebrates the beauty found within the minutiae.
Primarily utilizing natural and raw materials, Min aims to evoke a sense of intimacy and wonder, inviting viewers to hold the essence of her creations within the palm of their hands. As part of her commitment to sustainability, she is actively experimenting with natural raw materials and has contributed her pigments to the Pratt Institute Foundations Lab.
Recently, Min completed a residency at Prisma Estúdio in Lisbon, where she deepened her exploration of natural materials and cultural narratives. Building on this momentum, she will join the AiR program at Hangar in Lisbon to further expand her practice.
Minkyung holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design and has exhibited her work internationally, including at RISD, AYLO, ANNY Fest, CADAF, and SOI (Society of Illustrators) in New York, Gallery Ji-ha in Korea, and Prisma Estúdio in Portugal.
